The Affair

Lately I’ve noticed that Laverne the barn cat is less enthused about being picked up and snuggled. She doesn’t purr when I scoop her up and sometimes she actively avoids me and runs away. A few days ago I think I discovered why.

She’s having an affair with the goats. As I was doing chores one afternoon, I caught her rubbing up against Louie’s knees and walking underneath him. Louie just stood there, perhaps embarrassed to be found out. When she noticed me, Laverne coolly sauntered away and went to sit in the doorway of the goat pen on the straw in the sun.

It does help explain the barn-y smell of the cat’s fur…
